2006 Ford Five Hundred Water Pump Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Water Pump on 2006 Ford Five Hundred?
A: Service and repair of the coolant pump requires draining the cooling system first. Begin by taking out the air cleaner assembly followed by detachment of the thermostat housing-to-bypass tube hose before setting it aside. The two thermostat housing bolts should be removed before putting the thermostat housing to one side after discarding the O-ring seal. Reinstall the thermostat housing bolts by adjusting them to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Remove the coolant pump hose and properly place it to the side. A new sealing washer should always replace the center coolant pump bolt's washer when the bolt needs removal. The coolant pump requires removal of its four bolts before pulling out the pump itself. Begin coolant pump bolt installation by securing the center bolt to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.) and afterward install the outer bolts loosely. Proceed to tighten the center bolt to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) while the three outer bolts need torque to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). The installation completion requires you to install both a new sealing washer on the center coolant pump bolt along with a new O-ring seal on the thermostat housing with clean engine coolant applied for lubrication. Complete the cooling system filling operation and perform a bleeding procedure.
