- Q: How to Service the Air Filter Element on 2006 Ford Freestar?A: The first step for servicing the air cleaner element involves disconnecting the crankcase vent tube quick connect coupling from its position on the air cleaner outlet pipe. The brake aspirator tube must be fully inside the air cleaner outlet pipe to avoid vacuum leaks before disconnecting the tube. Open the two clamps to remove the air cleaner outlet pipe from the throttle body and air cleaner cover before extraction of the pipe while reattaching it at 4 Nm (35 lb-in). The procedure requires removal of the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector. To extract the air cleaner cover one can do it by hand while simply unhooking the two air cleaner housing clamps which will let you separate the air cleaner cover from its air cleaner tray. Put the air cleaner element in place while aligning the air cleaner cover to the tray by using the notches which are present for alignment purposes. Reinstall the parts in reverse order of removal.
