2006 Ford Fusion Battery Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the battery cables on 2006 Ford Fusion?
A: The battery cable repair process should start by placing the vehicle in neutral position then mounting it on a hoist. Delete the battery power while removing the bolt and nut and battery hold down bracket then tighten them upon reinstallation to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). After removing the bolt you should position the battery cable body ground terminal to the side before tightening it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) in the installation step. Reinstall the cable terminal of the BJB by tightening it to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). The battery cable transaxle ground terminal requires removal of its bolt and positioning aside while tightening to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) at reinstallation. Start by removing the starter solenoid terminal cover followed by removal of the nut to set aside the battery cable starter solenoid terminal, apply torque to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) before final installation. The battery cable locator must be removed from the starter stud bolt before taking out the three battery cable locators from behind the engine. Reinstall the generator shield by tightening its two nuts to a torque value of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). During reinstallation position the generator protective cover aside then remove the nut from the generator B+ terminal before securely fastening it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). To complete the installation reverse all steps of the removal procedure starting with reattaching the battery cables.
