2006 Ford Fusion Oil Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan on 2006 Ford Fusion?
A: The first step to servicing and repairing the oil pan requires positioning the vehicle on a hoist with neutral transmission and transmission in neutral position. The engine oil requires draining while still removing the front cover. Reinstall the drain plug by tightening it to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Detach the three oil pan-to-bell housing bolts followed by the thirteen bolts holding the oil pan in place to finally remove the oil pan. It is essential to use plastic scraping tools instead of metal scrapers or abrasive tools to avoid creating scratches on sealing surfaces during the installation of a new oil pan. Cleaning all mating surfaces with metal surface cleaner should also be performed. After four minutes of applying sealant to the oil pan expire the application and rinse off the residue while waiting for complete drying. Implement a 2.5 mm (0.09 inch) silicone gasket bead along with sealant to the base of the oil pan before putting it on the motor and tighthening the two back pan bolts by hand. A straight edge should be used to align the oil pan front surface with the engine block before tightening all bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) in their specified installation sequence. The three bell housing to oil pan bolts need to be tightened to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) while you reinstall the engine front cover followed by clean engine oil adding.
