2006 Ford Fusion Spark Plug Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair spark plugs on 2006 Ford Fusion?
A: Service and repair of spark plugs requires the ground cable disconnecting from the battery as a first step. Disassemble the items which include the two nuts, bolt and generator air inlet duct. Follow this step by disconnecting each of the four ignition coil-on-plug electrical connectors through slight twisting to separate them from the connection. Start by removing four bolts to extract the ignition coil-on-plugs as well as clearing the spark plug well using compressed air before uninstalling the four spark plugs. Check the spark plugs for condition then set their gaps properly before installation while tightening each plug to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). You should apply a tiny amount of dielectric grease inside ignition coil-on-plug boots prior to their application on spark plugs and fasten the four ignition coils with bolts that reach 10 Nm (89 lb-in). Reposition the generator air inlet duct while securing the electrical connectors of the four ignition coils with two nuts and a bolt which need to be tightened to 6 Nm (53 lb-in). The battery ground cable needs reconnection as the final step.
