2006 Ford Mustang Transmission Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the automatic transmission filter and transmission pan on 2006 Ford Mustang?
A: Initiate automatic transmission fluid filter servicing or repair when the vehicle stands in neutral position on a hoist. The transmission fluid requires draining by unthreading the plug. Start by disconnecting both heated oxygen sensor (H02S) connectors with retaining clip from the right-hand pan rail whereafter placing the connectors to the side. First pull the H02S connector out from the transmission pan rail front position. The transmission fluid pan gasket can be used again if it passes an inspection for damage while cleaning the parts. After removing both the transmission fluid pan as well as its gasket you need to dispose of the old transmission fluid filter. Cleansing and checking the transmission fluid pan needs to precede installation. Apply clean automotive transmission fluid on the O-ring seals of the new filter so they do not get damaged before properly positioning the seals. Secure the new filter using screws that should be tightened to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Install the transmission fluid pan with its gasket and put loose screws before tightening the screws crosswise at 15 Nm (8 ft. lbs.). Secure the transmission pan screws at 15 Nm torque while crossing them at a crisscross pattern. The H02S connector needs to be mounted at the front transmission pan rail before connecting it with the sensor wire retaining clip to the right-hand side of the transmission pan rail. Replace the drain plug by torqueing it to 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.). Start the procedure by removing the fluid level indicator plug with a 3/16-inch Allen key but someone should hold the drain plug with a wrench at the same time and finish by checking the fluid level.
