2006 Ford Taurus Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan to prevent engine failure on 2006 Ford Taurus?
A: Proper cleaning of the oil pan will stop engine failures that stem from foreign materials. Start by hoisting the vehicle into NEUTRAL position before disconnection the battery cable. Unfasten all bolts and engine roll restrictor before disconnecting the bolt and ground strap from the RH cylinder head. Remove first two nuts to set aside the heat shield before removing two dual converter Y-pipe to LH exhaust manifold nuts and two dual converter Y-pipe to RH exhaust manifold bolts to put aside the Y-pipe. Remove two bolts which position the starter aside before taking off a bolt and engine inspection plate. Solutions I require you to drain engine oil through the oil pan drain plug before reinstalling it with 13 Nm (10 ft. lbs.) torque. The 16 bolts securing the oil pan must be removed first and the gasket thrown away before cleaning the oil pan sealing surfaces with metal surface cleaner. The oil pan gasket needs to be placed onto the oil pan while you create a bead of silicone gasket and sealant in two front cover-cylinder block junctions and two rear main bearing cap-cylinder block junctions. The oil pan needs four minutes to secure its position before cleaning the seal area. After drying the area allows moving forward. Tighten oil pan bolts in order while the pan bolts are dry and clean with a torque of 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.). Begin by installing the engine inspection plate and bolt and tightening them to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.). Next position the starter before tightening the upper and lower bolts by hand followed by a torque of 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Position the dual converter Y-pipe by installing its two bolts to the RH exhaust manifold then applying torque of 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) followed by installing its two nuts to the LH exhaust manifold while tightening to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Reinstall the heat shield using two nuts which both need to be tightened to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) before fastening the ground strap and bolt onto the RH cylinder head with a tight torque of 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Complete the procedure by installing the engine roll restrictor then the two bolts at 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) torque, reconnect the battery ground cable and add clean oil to the engine and finally start the engine while inspecting for oil leaks at the oil pan.
