2006 Lincoln LS Battery Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the battery cables on 2006 Lincoln LS?
A: Start the battery cable maintenance by disconnecting the power source. The installation of the battery ground cable requires a torque of 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) after removing the battery ground cable bolt together with its locators. Release the positive battery cable in the rear by opening the rear battery junction box cover to remove its assembly nut and cable end which needs a nut torque setting of 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) during replacement. Drill out the positive battery cable from the two cable locator sites attached to the battery cable assembly conduit and the two cable locators under the package tray before moving the battery cable through the luggage compartment opening. To access the positive battery cable inside the passenger area remove seven rear seats as needed followed by releasing both positive cable locators positioned in the rear seat zone and extracting the cable from the shield area surrounding the rear door opening. Take out the positive battery cable shield in the front door opening area by discharging the three screws and extracting the cable from this shield too. The positive battery cable nut should be taken out from under the instrument panel at 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torque before removing the rear positive battery cable assembly. To install the front positive battery cable in the engine compartment begin by putting aside the bulkhead positive battery cable nut cover then unfasten the bulkhead positive battery cable nut and end by tightening them to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Disconnect the electrical connector before taking off the body ground cable bolt and setting the body ground cable lead aside for installation when tightening it to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Start the process by untightening the two harness bracket screws to 6 Nm before removing the bracket for installation. The starter ground cable end should be removed from its nut before tightening to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft), followed by the starter solenoid positive cable end which should get tightened to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). First tighten the starter solenoid wire cable nut and end to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) after installation before removing the generator harness locator and generator. Wipe away the generator B+ cover after which disconnect and tighten both the B+ cable nut and end to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). Finish the installation by performing the reverse order of steps which were used for removal.
