2006 Lincoln LS Oil Cooler Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil cooler on 2006 Lincoln LS?
A: The first step of servicing and repairing an oil cooler requires placing the vehicle on a hoist while maintaining it in neutral gear. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Proceed with engine cooling system draining following proper procedures to safeguard from damage while draining oil for the engine. Service of the oil cooler begins by taking off two coolant hoses along with removing and disposing of the oil filter and its gasket. The presence of metal or aluminum material in the oil cooler represents a problem with the mechanical system. Take out the bolt on the oil cooler and discard the gasket and inspect the parts carefully. A careful examination of surfaces and gasket must happen before installation while also applying clean engine oil to the gasket surface. Position the oil cooler with newly applied gasket before installing its bolt while rotating it clockwise until the locating pin reaches the stop position before tightening the bolt to 60 Nm (44 foot pounds). Apply clean engine oil to another new gasket before you install a fresh oil filter until the seal contacts. After that tighten the filter with an oil filter strap wrench an extra 270 degrees. The two coolant hoses must be joined to the oil cooler before adding new clean engine oil into the system and reinstalling the battery ground cable. Bleeding the engine cooling system to avoid damage is completed before filling it.
