2006 Lincoln LS Transmission Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the transmission pan, gasket, and filter on 2006 Lincoln LS?
A: A proper servicing approach for the fluid pan gasket and filter starts with cleaning the automatic transmission fluid before applying it onto the filter seals for protection from damage during installation. The transmission fluid pan gasket can be used again after cleaning and proper inspection to reuse if it lacks damage. You should install a fresh transmission fluid filter. Remove the drain plug from the vehicle in neutral position when the vehicle sits on a hoist to drain fluid. Separate the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connectors and its retaining clip from the right-hand pan rail before moving on to disconnect the HO2S connector installed at the front of the transmission pan rail. Keep the connectors to one side. Take off the transmission fluid pan with its gasket and dispose of the transmission fluid filter. Before installation check the transmission fluid pan along with magnet and apply clean automatic transmission fluid to the transmission fluid filter O-ring seals before placing them in their correct positions. Fasten the transmission fluid filter using screws that should be tightened to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Lay the fluid pan magnet into the transmission fluid pan before installing both pan and gasket while leaving the screws loose. The screws on the transmission pan should get tightened using an 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.) torque setting when implemented according to a crisscross pattern. Reinstall the HO2S connector on the transmission pan rail front section while connecting the HO2S connector alongside securing the sensor wire retaining clip on the right side of the pan rail. Fasten the drain plug at 26 Nm by using torque wrenches and attach it until it reaches 19 ft. lbs. Holding the drain plug with a wrench is required before pulling out the fluid level indicator plug that can be unplugged with a 3/16-inch Allen key. Perform the fluid level examination as the conclusion.
