2005 Lincoln LS Transmission Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the automatic transmission filter and transmission pan on 2005 Lincoln LS?
A: After lubricating the seals on the automatic fluid filter with clean transmission fluid you should install the filter correctly. The transmission fluid pan gasket is designed for multiple uses and you can keep it if it remains undamaged after cleaning. The service requires you to install a fresh transmission fluid filter. Raise the vehicle onto the hoist in neutral gear before removing the drain plug which will allow fluid drainage. First detach the HO2S retaining clips from the pan rails before moving aside both HO2S connectors. After removing the transmission fluid pan along with its gasket discard the current filter which was inside the transmission fluid. The transmission fluid pan and magnet should be cleaned first while an inspection takes place; you can apply cleaned automatic transmission fluid to the transmission fluid filter O-ring seals for lubrication. Fasten the new transmission fluid filter with screws while tightening them to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Reinstall the transmission fluid pan magnet while you mount the pan with its gasket using loose screw installation followed by crisscross tightening to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Secure each HO2S wire connector retainer to the transmission fluid pan rails followed by sensor connection. Secure the drain plug tightly at 26 Nm (19 foot pounds). To remove the fluid level indicator plug you need to hold the drain plug with a wrench while using a 3/16-Allen key for the removal process. Conduct the fluid level test as the final step.
