- Q: How to service the alternator on 2006 Lincoln Navigator?A: Service of the alternator should start with battery disconnection. The service on Navigator models involves letting go of two retainers followed by engine cover removal and air cleaner intake pipe detachment. Use counterclockwise rotation on the front end accessory drive belt tensioner to relocate the accessory drive belt to the side. After detaching the harness locator from the generator bracket proceed by removing the four securing bolts and return them to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) torque when reinstallation occurs. The generator installation requires unscrewing two holding bolts then placing the generator to the side while tightening these bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) torque specifications. The generator electrical connector needs disconnecting and the generator B+ protective cover should be moved aside before unscrewing the nut which allows removal of the generator B+ terminal when reinstalling it with 8 Nm (71 lb-in) torque. Remove the generator after finishing the installation by performing the reverse order of steps during the removal process.
