- Q: How to Safely and Effectively Service the Front Drive Shaft on 2006 Lincoln Navigator?A: Service operations on the front driveshaft require turning off the air suspension switch in the rear jack storage area which will prevent unscheduled air spring inflation or deflation thus avoiding vehicle shifts that might cause personal injuries. The vehicle should be positioned on a hoist in neutral gear. After pulling out the three front driveshaft shield nuts you should take out the front driveshaft shield too. Then reinstall the shield nuts by tightening them to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Index-mark the front flange to the pinion flange and the rear flange to the transfer case flange. Refitting the four rear flange-to-transfer case flange bolts requires torquing them to 104 Nm (77 ft. lbs.). During reinstallation you should tighten the four front flange-to-pinion flange bolts to 112 Nm (83 ft. lbs.). Before removing the front driveshaft from the vehicle check whether new bolts to retain the driveshaft at the axle and transfer case exist. If not available, coat original bolt threads with threadlock and sealer. During driveshaft reinstallation place the boot towards the transfer case before completing the installation procedure in reverse order.
