2006 Lincoln Town Car Coil Springs Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Coil Springs on 2006 Lincoln Town Car?
A: The process of coil spring servicing starts by turning off power to the air suspension system to stop air spring movement that might cause vehicle drifting under hoist or towing conditions result in possible injuries. Operating the air suspension service switch should be done by setting it to the OFF position. Place the vehicle into NEUTRAL and position it on a hoisting system. The safety of both users and equipment depends on leaving the center nut installed without removal since this will free up spring tension which could result in injuries. Disassemble the three shock absorber mounting bracket nuts then replace the new ones by torquing them to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Keep the brake hose safe by taking the caliper and anchor plate assembly off it before using mechanic's wire to support it. Then reinstall these components while torquing these components to 160 Nm (118 ft. lbs.). Next, remove the brake disc. A suitable jack stand must support the suspension arms in a raised position until the stabilizer bar links release their pressure during the maintenance operation. Install the new stabilizer bar link nut through the hex holding feature to stop rotation of the stud then tighten it to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.) during installation. To install the new part begin by removing the nut and stabilizer bar link from the lower location before discarding the nut and tightening the new component to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.). Disengage the wheel speed sensor wiring harness retainer from the wheel knuckle before removing and discarding the upper ball joint nut and re-tightening it to 150 Nm (111 ft. lbs.) when installing. After discarding the lower nut and flag bolt from the shock absorber and spring assembly remove them and use a torque wrench to fasten them to 225 Nm (166 ft. lbs.) while reinstalling. Reinstall the shock absorber followed by the spring assembly while tightening all bushing-retaining retainers with the weight of the vehicle applied to its wheels during the reversal of removal steps.
