    A: Drum brake shoe removal from the rear drum brake should be the initial step when performing service and repair on the parking brake cable. Service or repair operations on disc brake vehicles require the vehicle to be in NEUTRAL gear together with being secured on a hoist. Press the boot base to open the parking brake control boot clips located at the floor console before pulling the boot upward to remove it from the lever. Disconnect the cable connector from the left-hand rear parking brake wire at the equalizer by adjusting the front cable adjuster and removing its nut. You need to uninstall the LH rear parking brake cable only when the two parking brake equalizer bracket bolts demand 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.) torque for installation. The installation requires removal of the cable-to-fuel tank strap clip first then disconnection of the front parking brake cable from the equalizer bracket accomplished by compressing cable conduit locking tabs followed by removal of the cable bracket-to-body bolt which must be tightened to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.) during reinstallation. The installation requires tightening this bolt to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.) for the cable bracket-to-trailing arm bolt. When installing drum brake parking cables extend the conduit locking tabs of the rear parking brake cables to pull the cable assembly through the brake backing plate. The integral part of the disc brake service involves cutting the parking brake cable end from the actuator lever and then compressing the cable conduit locking tabs. The finishing step demands you perform the reverse steps while adjusting the parking brake cable condition if needed.
