    A: The rear parking brake cable servicing and repair process starts with removing drum brake shoes from rear drum brake units. The servicing procedure for rear parking brakes starts with placing a disc brake vehicle in NEUTRAL position on a hoist. The floor console boot clips holding the parking brake control need inward pressure at their bases so you can remove the boot by raising it above the lever. The service and repair of the rear parking brake cable requires disconnecting the cable connector from the LH rear parking brake cable at the equalizer while loosening its front cable adjuster nut. The installation of the two parking brake equalizer bracket bolts requires torque settings at 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.) and this should also be done if you are removing the LH rear parking brake cable. The process should include unhooking the front parking brake cable from the equalizer bracket through pressure on the cable conduit locking tabs and removing the cable-to-fuel tank strap clip. Unclamp the cable bracket-to-body bolt before reinstallation and fasten it to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.) then secure the cable bracket-to-trailing arm bolt at 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Users should compress the rear parking brake cable conduit locking tabs to extract the cable assembly through the brake backing plate of drum brake vehicles. To service disc brakes you should do two things; first let go of the rear parking brake cable end from the parking brake actuator lever then compress the cable conduit locking tabs. Reversing the removal process should be completed by readjusting the parking brake cable as required.
