2007 Ford E-150 Automatic Transmission Shifter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the automatic transmission shifter on 2007 Ford E-150?
A: The first task in automatic transmission shifter service or repair requires disconnecting the vehicle battery. The steering wheel must be placed at full down position when the vehicle has a column that tilts. Press the headlamp knob to ON and gently remove it from its clip by using a small screwdriver. First remove the audio unit by taking out the headlamp switch bezel using a counterclockwise rotation. Use a screwdriver to access the electrical connectors inside the instrument cluster finish panel after you remove the two panel securing screws. Keep the panel front side only slightly extended to avoid damage. Pull out the instrument cluster finish panel following the removal of its electrical connectors. Use a suitable tool to push upward on the ignition switch lock cylinder release tab from the hole in the lower shroud while pulling the cylinder outward by positioning the switch to RUN. You must first remove the top steering column shroud but after that disconnect and separate the transmission range selector lever with its electrical connector. The removal of the transmission range selector lever requires installing a new replacement pin before reinstalling it. The completion of the process demands following the steps of removal in reverse order.
