2006 Ford E-150 Automatic Transmission Shifter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the automatic transmission shifter on 2006 Ford E-150?
A: Disconnection of the battery is the first step when servicing or repairing the automatic transmission shifter system. Users should position the steering wheel in the FULL DO position when their vehicle uses a tilt column setup. The first step starts with turning the headlamp knob to ON while using a screwdriver to release the clip before continuing with the knob extraction. The first step includes turning the headlamp switch bezel counter-clockwise and removing the audio unit from its position. Two screws secure the instrument cluster finish panel from the back and you must gently forward push the panel while reaching for the electrical connectors to prevent damage. Begin by disconnecting the electrical connectors then carefully take away the instrument cluster finish panel. First manipulate the ignition switch lock cylinder to RUN then utilize a suitable tool to push upward on its release tab through the lower shroud hole as you simultaneously pull the cylinder outward. You must first detach the electrical connector from the transmission range selector lever before removing the upper steering column shroud along with the transmission range selector lever. The replacement of the transmission range selector lever pin must occur every time this component is taken out for installation. The completion requires performing the reversal of removal steps to reinstall the component.
