2007 Ford E-150 Battery Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the battery cables mounted on the frame on 2007 Ford E-150?
A: You should start battery cable frame repairs by taking out the vehicle battery and disconnecting it. The upper right battery tray bolt needs removal while tightening it to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) before reinstalling. Before installation secure the remaining three battery tray bolts at a torque level of 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). Push the battery tray upwards towards the right until it uncouples from its bolts and let it settle on the safety straps. After securing the battery tray cover using 7 Nm (62 lb-in) torque apply the two nuts and bolts. Disconnect the battery terminals by loosening the nuts and tighten them to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) when reconnecting. While disconnecting the frame-mounted battery harness-to-frame retainer you should remove its bolt then fasten it again to 14 Nm (10 lb-ft). Start by removing the eight harness locators from the frame rail before taking out the starter solenoid terminal cover. Fit the starter solenoid positive cable with its nut and lock it down at 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torque after installation. Untighten the starter solenoid terminal nut before reinstallation while ensuring a torque of 5 Nm (44 lb-in) and free the battery ground cable terminal nut before tightening it to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). Technicians should take off the nut securing the battery cable lower bracket before either using 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) torque on 4.6L engines or 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) torque on 5.4L and 6.8L engines while reinstalling this component. First detach the transmission cooler line clip from the battery cable lower bracket before taking away the harness locator from the frame hardware. The re-installation process requires tightened nut for battery ground cable eyelet at 8 Nm (71 lb-in) followed by removal of the generator cable and BJB terminals nut then installation at 9 Nm (80 lb-in). The removal procedure will be reversed for reattaching the battery cable assembly.
