2008 Ford E-150 Battery Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the battery cables mounted on the frame on 2008 Ford E-150?
A: Begin the repair process of battery cables mounted on the frame by discharging the battery then extracting it from the vehicle. Begin by taking out the upper right battery tray bolt but follow up this step by tightening it to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). The three remaining battery tray bolts should be first loosened before being secured to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). Move the battery tray toward the right while sliding it upward to unfasten its bolts before it can drop onto the safety straps. Installation of the battery tray cover requires you to tighten its two securing nuts and bolts to 7 Nm (62 lb-in). Unscrew the battery terminal nuts before disconnecting them and then follow up by tightening the nuts to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft). Install the bolt on the frame-mounted battery harness-to-frame retainer after tightening it to 14 Nm (10 lb-ft). First remove the eight harness locators from the frame rail before taking out the starter solenoid terminal cover. Secure the positive cable starter solenoid nut with torque of 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) during its reinstallation. Reinstall the starter solenoid wire terminal by fastening its nut to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). When reinstalling the battery ground cable terminal you must tighten its nut to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft). When working on 4.6L engine vehicles tighten the battery cable lower bracket nut to 15 Nm while 5.4L and 6.8L engine vehicles require a torque of 55 Nm. First remove the transmission cooler line clip which attaches to the battery lower bracket prior to taking out the harness locator from the frame. Tighten the battery ground cable eyelet to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) when reinstalling it. Before refitting the cable and BJB, both components need to be fastened with 9 Nm (80 lb-in) torque. The battery cable assembly removal completes the process while following the reverse order of initial removal steps.
