2007 Ford E-150 Drive Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service the Rear One-Piece Drive Shaft on 2007 Ford E-150?
A: The servicing process of the rear one-piece driveshaft begins only when the vehicle sits on a hoist in NEUTRAL position. The first step is to index-mark between the driveshaft flange yoke and pinion flange for driveline balance alongside the driveshaft yoke and transmission tailshaft but avoid turning the output shaft. Seamlessly separate the driveshaft flange yoke from the pinion flange using a suitable pry bar but without hitting any components until you disconnect the four bolts that attach the driveshaft to the pinion flange. Next position the driveshaft below the output shaft then remove it from the shaft. Check the extension housing seal for defects then install a new one if needed. Examine paint marks that should be visible on the transmission output shaft end and front of the driveshaft. The slip-yoke spline needs to receive a coating of grease. You should align either the factory-made paint marks or the index marks to correctly position the driveshaft within the transmission. The driveshaft installation requires new bolts but can also use sealer treatment for original bolt threads instead. The driveshaft flange yoke must have proper alignment with the pinion flange by using a cross bolt-tightening method and matching index marks before putting on the driveshaft-to-pinion flange bolts.
