- Q: What precautions should be taken when servicing the passenger air bag module on 2007 Ford Edge?A: Service personnel responsible for passenger air bag module work should wear protective safety glasses because accidental deployment poses a safety risk for their eyes. The live air bag module needs to be handled with its air bag facing away from the body. Combine the passenger air bag module deployment with hand washing solution and soap immediately following deployment to wash off sodium hydroxide residue while keeping the live module off its face so that it does not flip upside down. Avoid probing any connectors on the air bag module while also refraining from using memory saver devices. The first step involves disabling the components then opening the glove compartment followed by separating any present dampener unit. Tear off the two bolts which connect the passenger air bag module to the cross-car beam bracket while being careful to avoid touching the module through its deployment doors to shield it from harm. Use the glove compartment opening to release deployment door clips starting from the left-hand side and ending with the most forward clips to separate the door from the instrument panel. The right-hand side electrical connector has a locking button you can expose with a small screwdriver while gently removing it from its place by its locking button to stop it from breaking. The second part of the procedure requires removal of the left-hand side electrical connector prior to taking out the passenger air bag module. During establishment install the electrical connector locking buttons until they unlock and position the connector key inside the module keyway before connecting without using force. place the two electrical connectors into the module until they reach complete insertion then position the locking buttons. When installing the instrument panel deployment the first step should be to completely seat the rear-most deployment door clips before moving forward to the front clips. Fasten the inboard passenger air bag module bolt until it reaches an 8 Nm (71 lb-in) torque setting followed by the outboard bolt at the same torque level. Powers up the system while simultaneously reattaching the dampener whenever equipped then closing the glove compartment door.
