2007 Ford Escape Shock Absorber Parts Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace the Shock Absorber in the Suspension Strut and Spring Assembly on 2007 Ford Escape?
A: First secure the steering wheel in an unlocked position before starting the suspension strut and spring assembly work on a lift hoist when the vehicle is in neutral. First disconnect the brake jounce hose clip and guide the brake jounce hose down to break its bracket connection before placing it to the side. Take out the bolt which secures the anti-lock brake system (ABS) wheel speed sensor harness. You can stabilize the ball stud through the hex holding feature during the removal of the upper stabilizer bar link nut. Detach the two strut-to-knuckle nuts and bolts after you mark the positions of the four strut upper bushing plate nuts. Take care not to let the axle shaft extend outboard since extended movement of the tripod CV joint might cause internal separation and axle shaft failure. Total installation success requires inserting the new upper mounting plate within the inner fender while matching reference marks to strut upper bushing nuts that should be tightened to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). The installation requires torquing two strut-to-knuckle bolts and nuts to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.) and tightening the upper stabilizer bar link nut to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.) and securing the ABS wheel speed sensor harness bolt with 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). The last step involves placing the brake jounce hose to its bracket along with installation of the jounce hose clip before performing front end alignment checks and making any required adjustments.
