2007 Ford Expedition Oil Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan on 2007 Ford Expedition?
A: Vehicle service and oil pan repairs must begin with hoisting it in neutral position while draining the engine oil. Unfasten the four bolts holding the frame crossmember before unscrewing the nut and detaching the starter wiring harness and transmission fluid cooler tube support brackets off the stud bolt. A safe disconnect procedure requires separating the starter wiring harness retainer. The jack stand must support front axle housing on four-wheel drive vehicles while you keep track of bolt position and bracket alignment for future installation. Lower the front axle housing carefully to prevent vacuum line damage to the axle solenoid by removing three mounting bolts including the right-hand front and left-hand front and left-hand rear bolts. The oil pan must be removed alongside its gasket before inspecting the damaged oil pan gasket for replacement with new gasket and oil pan-to-oil pump gaskets. Installation of seals requires only soft plastic tools for cleaning sealing surfaces because the mating surface requires treatment with silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep followed by drying time. Give these two surfaces silicone gasket and sealant for retention at the crankshaft rear seal retainer plate-to-cylinder block and engine front cover-to-cylinder block. Secure the sixteen bolts of the oil pan gasket and oil pan first loosely then expand the torque to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.), 20 Nm (15 ft lbs.) before applying additional 60-degree force. The installation of the front axle housing begins with installing the three bolts loosely while maintaining their position relative to the original marks made during uninstallation before finally torquing the mounting bolts to 89 Nm (66 ft. lbs.). The installer should position the frame crossmember into place before tightening the 4 bolts to 102 Nm (75 ft. lbs.). Then install the starter wiring harness and transmission fluid cooler tube support brackets while tightening the nut to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) before connecting the starter wiring harness retainer to the cylinder block. Clean engine oil should be used for filling the crankcase.
