2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Sway Bar Link Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Rear Sway Bar Link on 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: You should start servicing and repairing the rear sway bar and link of the Explorer Sport Trac by removing its upper arms. The LH shock absorber lower bolt needs removal to improve movement of the wheel knuckle when installing sway bars. The purge solenoid electrical connector should detach while you unfasten the wiring harness from the frame component. Empty the fuel tank by unserting its filler pipe bracket bolt but apply 15 Nm (11 foot pounds) torque when reattaching it. The technician will loosen and disconnect the fuel tank filler hose but return the hose to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.) at reattachment. First remove both the sway bar link nut and its grommet with the stud and link assembly before discarding them; reinstall the components by tightening to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) at curb height. Disconnect the wiring harness retainer caps from sway bar bracket studs then throw away 4 sway bar bracket nuts. Install these 4 nuts to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) torque specification later. You must first remove the 2 sway bar brackets along with both sway bar bushings then remove the 4 sway bar bracket studs by pushing front studs downward before sliding to the back of the vehicle and rear studs below the front. Secure the fuel vapor line from the tank by unclip and disconnect methods and safely position it to the side. When installing the sway bar take necessary care to prevent damage to the wiring harness alongside fuel lines, fuel filler tube and body structure particularly on vehicles with rear air conditioning or heating since such setup may cause A/C lines or rear heater hoses to break. Support is required to detach the sway bar from the left-hand side of the vehicle. Make sure you lift the suspension with a suitable jack until the fender lip gap matches an earlier taken curb height measurement. Then tighten the sway bar link nuts. The procedure should end with the reverse installation steps.
