2007 Ford F-150 Water Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Water Pump for the 4.2L Engine on 2007 Ford F-150?
A: When repairing or servicing the coolant pump used in the 4.2L engine start with coolant system drainage followed by engine cooling fan and fan shroud removal. The first procedure requires removal of engine cooling fan and fan shroud. The assembly procedure for the coolant pump pulley bolts involves loosening them first then retightening them later to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). First remove the drive belt after which you should remove the coolant pump pulley bolts to tighten them at 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) before reinstalling. The heater outlet tube must detach from the coolant pump through bolt removal and O-ring inspection to determine replacement when needed then apply engine coolant lubrication before retorque to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). The A/C compressor mounting bracket support nuts need removal before being tightened back to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) during reinstallation. To assemble the A/C compressor mounting bracket support properly, first remove its upper bolt so you can loosen the lower bolt to move the bracket forward against the power steering pump pulley before setting it aside and tightening with 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Remove the clamp from the lower radiator hose before disconnecting it. Unfasten all parts of the coolant pump before installation and tighten every component to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) during the process. When disposing the old coolant pump gasket avoid using metal scrapers because plastic scrapers along with metal surface prep according to package instructions yield better results. To finalize the process install the components in the opposite order of removal.
