2008 Ford F-150 Water Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Water Pump for the 4.2L engine on 2008 Ford F-150?
A: The service procedure for 4.2L engine coolant pump repair begins by draining the cooling system. The service starts with removing both the engine cooling fan and fan shroud. The four bolts holding the coolant pump pulley require loosening before reinstallation where torque should be set to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). First remove the drive belt alongside the bolts which fasten the coolant pump pulley. Tear the heater outlet tube assembly off the coolant pump by unbolt it and check the O-ring seal before replacing it if worn out. Apply fresh engine coolant to the new O-ring seal before tightening all hardware to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). The technician should remove nuts from the A/C compressor mounting bracket support before reinstallation by tightening them to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). First detach the upper bolt from the A/C compressor mounting bracket support before freeing the lower bolt to guide the bracket and bolt forward towards the power steering pump pulley position. Then store the A/C compressor mounting bracket to re-tighten it at 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) during reassembly. First unfasten the lower radiator hose clamp before detaching the hose from the pump. Disconnect all fasteners from the pump before installing it with secure torque to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft). To prevent damage it is essential to discard the old coolant pump gasket before cleaning both sealing surfaces with a plastic scraper and metal surface preparation while avoiding the use of metal scrapers or abrasive tools. The procedure ends with the return of installation steps in reverse order.
