How to service and repair the muffler and tailpipe on 2007 Ford F-350 Super Duty?

Service and repair operations on the muffler and tailpipe must start by putting the vehicle in NEUTRAL position on a hoist platform. Service professionals should detach the muffler coupling from the catalytic converter or perform the same operation when linking the exhaust intermediate pipe to the muffler. Remove two muffler rear bracket nuts then remove the muffler and tailpipe assembly by disconnecting rubber isolators. Place the muffler and tailpipe assembly so the rubber isolators connect correctly before any fasteners become tightened. Fasten the two muffler rear bracket nuts only lightly. Use a pad to remove surface rust from the exhaust coupling area before placing a fresh coupling on the joint between the catalytic converter and muffler or the exhaust intermediate and muffler assembly. Keep the coupling at least 4 mm (0.15 inch) from the back of the pipe end button. The exhaust system requires alignment prior to tightening the catalytic converter-to-muffler coupling or exhaust intermediate pipe-to-muffler coupling to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.) followed by tightening rear bracket nuts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). New fasteners bearing the exact part number of the original pieces must be used along with following torquing specifications for exhaust component retention.
