2007 Ford Focus Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the parking brake cable on all on 2007 Ford Focus?
A: All vehicle service and repair of the parking brake cable starts with floor console removal before releasing the brake and loosening its adjustment nut. Remove the retaining clip first after you reach the adjustment nut thread limit. The vehicle needs to be in NEUTRAL position before placing it on the hoist while providing support to the exhaust pipe. The exhaust tailpipe and muffler assembly needs removal through nut discarding and new assembly nut tightening to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.), following hanger isolator disconnection. Proceed by taking away the exhaust center hanger isolator and the exhaust center heat shield and the exhaust rear heat shield which are found on the floor panel. It is crucial to unfasten the parking brake cable from the equalizer while remembering how the clips located on the outer cable conduit will be installed later. Disconnect the parking brake cable from its retaining clips and remove rear air deflectors if equipped by taking out screws together with releasing the clip. Take off the bolt which guides the parking brake cable from the floor panel before drawing out the parking brake cable from its bracket. When working on vehicles with anti-lock brakes you need to remove the rear wheel speed sensor bolt and put the speed sensor out of the way before reinstallation tightens it to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.). The installation of new windshield and side windows requires the following steps for vehicles with rear drum brakes: first remove the brake drum then take off the parking brake cable guide bolt accompanied by disconnecting the parking brake cable at the cable union while pulling the guide and cable through lower control arm to free it from brake backing plate through actuating lever compression of the clip mechanism. The rear lower control arm on both sides requires cable removal of the parking brake from each control arm before disconnection at the caliper point. This step includes pulling back the parking brake lever to unclip the cable conduit retaining clip. The installation begins by reversing all steps of removal and ends when professionals set correct brake alignment.
