- Q: How to Service and Repair the Return Power Steering Hose from the Steering Gear to the Fluid Cooler on 2007 Ford Freestyle?A: You should hoist the vehicle into neutral position before starting power steering return hose repair work from the steering gear to the fluid cooler. Detach the power steering return line-to-fluid cooler hose after loosening its clamp. To remove the frame bracket for the power steering return line you must first remove the four bolts. Installation requires M8 bolts to be tightened to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) and M6 bolts to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.). The replacement of fresh O-ring seals becomes necessary after disconnecting power steering lines from the steering gear. Uncouple the power steering line clamp plate by first removing its bolt then rotating the clamp plate until you can disconnect the return line from the steering gear before removing both the return line and its O-ring seals and bolt for discard. Before proceeding finish the procedure by re-tightening the connection to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) and then filling the power steering system.
