First remove the rear axle assembly before removing all 10 bolts from the rear differential cover to drain the differential fluid from its housing. Start by cleaning both machined surfaces on the rear axle housing and differential housing cover until they are free from oil but also protect the inside of the rear axle from outside contamination. A clear path should exist for the vent located on the differential rear cover. Both the differential housing and differential housing cover require cleaning of their gasket mating areas. You need to install the differential housing cover within 15 minutes of silicone application or new sealant must replace the old application. The installation of lubricant should take place one hour after applying the silicone sealant to allow complete curing. Place a continuous bead of clear silicone rubber before installing the differential housing cover together with 10 bolts which should be tightened to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Add 1.15L (2.43 pt) rear axle lubricant into the component while leaving a 3-5 mm (0.118-0.196 inch) space below the bottom of the filler hole before tightening the filler plug to 29 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Finally, reinstall the axle assembly.
