2007 Ford Taurus Intake Manifold Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the upper intake manifold on 2007 Ford Taurus?
A: Cleaning operations should start first when servicing the upper intake manifold because foreign materials may lead to engine failure. First disconnect the ground cable from the battery before you proceed to take out the air cleaner outlet pipe. Two pin-type retainers along with the accelerator control splash shield need to be removed at this step. The next step consists of removing the throttle body from which the accelerator cable, speed control cable and throttle return spring are disconnected. Then separate the 2 bolts securing the accelerator cable bracket before moving the cables alongside the bracket out of the way. The technician disconnects TP sensor and IAC electrical connectors while also removing the throttle body stud bolt retaining harness. The evaporative emissions (EVAP) return tube requires removing from the upper intake manifold followed by a complete removal of the upper intake manifold support bracket and its associated nuts. Keep harnesses positioned adjacent to the bracket. You should disconnect the EGR valve from its exhaust gas recirculation tube and the PCV tube from the upper intake manifold and from the PCV valve. Unplug the vacuum tube from the fuel rail pressure sensor as well as the EGR vacuum regulator and separate the EGR vacuum regulator and intake manifold runner control electrical connectors. You need to remove the 2 nuts which hold down the EGR vacuum regulator and unfasten the spark plug wire retainer from the valve cover stud. Then detach the upper intake manifold by removing its 3 stud bolts. Before assembly you should clean and inspect all gasket surfaces on the upper intake manifold then replace gaskets whenever needed before installation. Install the gaskets and upper intake manifold and radio ignition frequency capacitor before loosely installing the stud bolts and bolt according to a specified sequence while torquing them to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs). Install the spark plug wire holder by placing it on the valve cover stud and position the EGR vacuum regulator before tightening its 2 nuts to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs). The next procedure requires connecting the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid with IMRC electrical connectors before attaching the vacuum tube between the FRP sensor and EGR vacuum regulator. Tighten the PCV tube which leads to both the PCV valve and the upper intake manifold to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs) torque, then fasten the EGR tube to reach the EGR valve with 50 Nm torque (37 ft. lbs). Use the upper intake manifold support bracket and install its bolt and nut before fastening the nut to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs) and tightening the bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs). The EVAP return tube requires connection to the upper intake manifold before installation of the TP sensor and IAC electrical connectors together with attachment to the throttle body stud bolt. Install the two bracket bolts onto the accelerator cable along with torque tightening them to 9 Nm at (80 inch lbs). Connect all wires from the throttle body that control the accelerator cable, speed control cable, and throttle return spring. Next, position the accelerator control splash shield and use its 2 pin-type retainers for installation. You should finish the repair by installing the air cleaner outlet pipe while also connecting the battery ground cable.
