2006 Ford Taurus Intake Manifold Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the upper intake manifold on 2006 Ford Taurus?
A: A proper servicing start with cleaning the upper intake manifold because dirt fragments might lead to catastrophic engine breakdown. First disconnect the battery ground cable while removing the air cleaner outlet pipe. Start by taking out two pin-type retainers and the accelerator control splash shield and disconnect the components that include the accelerator cable, speed control cable and throttle return spring from the throttle body. Begin by removing the two bolts which secure the accelerator cable bracket and after that set aside the cables and bracket together. First disconnect throttle position (TP) sensor along with intake air control (IAC) electrical connectors from their respective locations then loosen the harness retainer from the throttle body stud bolt. Start with disconnecting the evaporative emissions (EVAP) return tube from the upper intake manifold. Proceed to remove the upper intake manifold support bracket bolt and nuts and position the bracket and harness aside. Remove all connections of the EGR tube from the EGR valve and then remove the PCV tube starting from the upper intake manifold before disconnecting it from the PCV valve. Disconnect the vacuum tube which connects the fuel rail pressure (FRP) sensor with the EGR vacuum regulator and then separate the EGR vacuum regulator and intake manifold runner control (IMRC) electrical connectors. Begin by dismantling the EGR vacuum regulator while removing its two nuts and then detach the spark plug wire retainer from the valve cover stud. Finish by uninstalling the three stud bolts and upper intake manifold. During assembly procedures you should check the sealing surfaces on the upper intake manifold alongside its gaskets then replace both components if they show any signs of damage. Position the gaskets followed by the upper intake manifold and radio ignition frequency capacitor and install the stud bolts and bolt loosely before tightening both to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) in the specified order. Place the EGR vacuum regulator before securing the two nuts with torques set at 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.). Follow up the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid and IMRC electrical connector connection by linking the vacuum tube to the FRP sensor and EGR vacuum regulator. First connect the PCV tube to both PCV valve and upper intake manifold while connecting the EGR tube to the EGR valve before tightening each connection to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.). Install the upper intake manifold support bracket before tightening its bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) and nut to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.). The EVAP return tube requires connection to the upper intake manifold and the TP sensor while the IAC electrical connectors need to be connected before installing the harness retainer to the throttle body stud bolt. Position the accelerator cable bracket before screwing in the two bolts which should be tightened to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.). Securing the throttle body requires the connection of accelerator cable followed by speed control cable and throttle return spring. Afterwards pose the accelerator control splash shield and install its two pin-type retainers. The last installation task involves setting the air cleaner outlet pipe while re-establishing the battery ground cable.
