How to service the rear bumper cover on 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis?

Service the rear bumper cover by beginning with depowering the fire suppression system if present and turning off the air suspension electric power to avoid unexpected pressure changes in the air springs which may cause vehicle movement during work operations. The technician should use the NEUTRAL gear to position the vehicle onto a hoist. Start the bumper cover removal process by unscrewing the two rear screws then detaching the other two screws along with their side pin-type retainers. Begin by removing the 6 pin-type retainers which distribute across three areas per side before extracting the pin-type retainers coupled with the luggage compartment rear trim panel that needs setting aside of its lining material. After removing the 4 rear bumper cover nuts located two each side tighten all of them to 7 Nm (62 lb-in) before installing. To detach the rear bumper cover you need to take out its 6 rear bumper cover nuts which are positioned in groups of 3 on each side. Finish the process by securely fastening the nuts at 7 Nm (62 lb-in). The process ends with a reverse order of disassembly procedures.
