How to remove and replace the rear bumper cover on 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis?

The removal process for a rear bumper cover demands first depowering the fire protection system to protect safety and switching off the air suspension electrical power to avoid air spring changes. Place the neutral-gear vehicle onto a safe hoist position. First detach all 2 bumper cover screws from the rear before moving onto the 2 additional screws and 2 pin-type retainers located on each side. Begin by removing 6 pin-type retainers divided into 3 pieces on each side and after that take out the pin-type retainers with the luggage compartment rear trim panel before setting the lining material to the side. You must extract the 4 rear bumper cover nuts from each side before installing the nuts with a torque of 7 Nm (62 lb-in). The rear bumper cover can be detached by removing six cover nuts, three each from the sides until cover removal is complete and reinstalling the cover using 7 Nm (62 lb-in) torque. The procedure concludes with the opposite order of removal operations.
