2008 Ford Crown Victoria Parking Brake Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the front parking brake cable on 2008 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: The front parking brake cable repair and servicing process starts by conducting the parking brake control release through the parking brake release handle. Vehicle operators need to disable the electrical power to the air suspension system before hoisting or jacking the vehicle to stop unexpected air spring inflation or deflation which could cause shifting and lead to severe personal injury. The air suspension service switch should be turned to off position when it is available. A vehicle equipped with a fire suppression system should have its power disabled before continuing since insufficient deactivation could result in life-threatening injuries to personnel. Position the vehicle in neutral position on a hoist until operations start. First lower the parking brake adjuster clip and fully engage the parking brake control before pressing the adjuster clip upwards to set the parking brake adjuster locking position. Perform a second parking brake control release by using the parking brake release handle. Remove the front parking brake cable conduit from the frame bracket through pressing the retaining tabs while also disconnecting it from the parking brake control bracket. Start by disconnecting the front parking brake cable from the LH rear parking brake cable union point. Instillation of the front parking brake cable bracket bolt must include tightening it to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.). The parking brake control requires front parking brake cable removal before the front parking brake conduit grommet can pass through the body to extract the cable. The installation requires following the removal steps in reverse order while confirming the correct tension of the parking brake cable. After finishing installation the vehicle requires repowering when it has a fire suppression system installed. If available on the vehicle you must switch the air suspension service switch to the on position.
