The intermediate shaft disconnection requires preventing any steering wheel rotation to protect the Clock Spring from damage and this situation may require complete removal and re-positioning of the Clock Spring. Start by doing away with the upper steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt followed by disconnecting the shaft until you tighten its new version to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) torque while reassembly. The two upper steering column shaft bearing nuts need removal and their screws should be tightened up to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft) when reinstalling. Lift out both components of the lower steering column shaft-to-steering gear bolt and remove the shaft before fastening the new bolt at 30 Nm (22 lb-ft). The task ends with component assembly then the SRS system gets powered up.
