2008 Ford Crown Victoria Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Floor Shift Interlock Solenoid on 2008 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: The first step to repair the Brake Shift Interlock Actuator in a floor-shift vehicle is to drain the back up power before performing maintenance to avoid triggering the air bags. The initial step requires disconnecting the ground battery cable and waiting for one minute at least. During this time, all auxiliary batteries should receive the same treatment. First disconnect the electrical connector then remove the instrument panel finish panel. You must start by taking off the console finish panel after which you must push down the shift handle bezel to detach the transmission control (TC) switch harness. The two shift handle screws need removal before pulling off the shift handle and its components. To remove the bulb install the shift indicator bezel upward while you should free the shift interlock cable housing clip followed by disconnecting the interlock cable. To continue with the steering column modification start by unscrewing the lower steering column finish panel at the parking brake handle which then needs to be placed to the side followed by a second screw removal from the same panel. Proceed to pull outward and then remove the panel by disconnecting the retaining clips. Five screws need removal from both the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement alongside the four screws from instrument panel reinforcement brace. The removal of three screws allows you to take off the lower steering column shroud. Lower the steering column by taking out four nuts before reinstallation where you should torque them to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft). The electrical connector must be disconnected from the shift lock actuator solenoid and the mounting bracket holds the actuator solenoid before removing both interlock actuator and its cable. The reverse of the removal steps constitutes the full installation process.
