2008 Ford E-250 A/C Accumulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Determine If the A/C Accumulator Needs Replacement When Servicing the HVAC System on 2008 Ford E-250?
A: The suction accumulator requires replacement only when contamination is present from damaged A/C compressors or physical damage like leaks or moisture damage following a total refrigerant loss along with atmospheric pressure exposure. The first step involves recovering refrigerant before unbolting the battery tray to extract the battery tray and battery assembly. Repeating the bolt torque value to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft) should be done when reinstalling the tray. Take the two bolts off from the washer reservoir filler tube before placing it to the side. You should disconnect the evaporator outlet fitting using a wrench on both sides while disposing of the O-ring seal before installing the new fitting securely at 39 Nm (29 lb-ft). Install the suction accumulator outlet fitting on vehicles without auxiliary A/C while discarding both O-ring seals and gasket seals and tightening it to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft). The suction accumulator outlet spring lock coupling of vehicles with auxiliary A/C requires removal along with the O-ring seals for substitution. The technician should disconnect the A/C cycling switch electrical connector before removing the two suction accumulator bolts which need tightening to 14 Nm (10 lb-ft) when reinstalling. The correct procedure for suction accumulator removal is followed for installation by using new gasket seal and O-ring seals while lubricating the refrigerant system with the required amount of clean PAG oil and performing evacuation then leak testing and refrigerant charging.
