2008 Ford E-250 Water Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the Water Pump for 4.6L, 5.4L, and 6.8L engines on 2008 Ford E-250?
A: Service repair operations on the coolant pump for 4.6L, 5.4L, and 6.8L engines begin by removing the fan assembly with its fan clutch. Rotating the tensioner clockwise enables relaxed pulley bolt removal which lets the accessory drive belt get removed from the coolant pulley. Remove the four bolts from the coolant pump pulley before taking out the four bolts securing the pump itself where you will dispose of the existing O-ring seal. The manufacturer must specify which metal surface prep method to use for cleaning the sealing surfaces. When installing the new O-ring seal for the coolant pump, apply engine coolant as a lubricating agent then position it onto the pump. Proper installation of the coolant pump housing requires careful avoidance of rotating motions because they can lead to damage of the O-ring. Tighten the four bolts which secure the coolant pump until they reach 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Slowly tighten the bolts which secure the coolant pump pulley onto its respective position. Apply clockwise rotation to the tensioner while mounting the accessory drive belt onto the coolant pulley and fasten the coolant pump pulley bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). The installation process ends by placing back the fan together with its fan clutch.
