2008 Ford Edge A/C Expansion Valve Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the A/C Expansion Valve on 2008 Ford Edge?
A: Start the thermosatic expansion valve service by recovering the refrigerant gas. The first step requires you to remove the TXV fitting nut followed by disconnection of the fitting while discarding the O-ring seals. Proceed by removing the two TXV bolts until you can remove the TXV component from the system while disposing of both O-ring seals. After performing the removal steps in reverse order install new O-ring seals that received PAG oil lubrication followed by correct PAG oil lubrication of the system. The refrigerant system needs evacuation followed by leak testing before performing a refrigerant charge. The receiver/drier desiccant bag needs replacement only when physical evidence shows contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the bag itself that includes physical damage or water contamination after the system loses all pressure to atmospheric pressure for longer than one hour. Repair operations need to begin only after the system passes a harmonization pressure test due to which the receiver/drier desiccant bag does not require replacement. Use O-ring seals that were designed for this vehicle since they do not match the specifications of other Ford products. Attach the fitting by tightening it to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
