Ford Edge A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C Expansion Valve on Ford Edge?
    A:
The first step for servicing or repairing the thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) requires a proper recovery of all refrigerant. Disconnect the TXV fitting by removing its fitting nut and discard the O-ring seals which then need replacement. The fitting should be tightened to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) during reinstallation. Unscrew and eliminate the two TXV bolts before extracting the TXV from its place yet disposing of the O-ring seals. Follow the opposite steps for TXV installation while applying new O-ring seals that received PAG oil lubrication. The refrigerant system needs a proper amount of clean PAG oil for lubrication when completed. Evacuation along with leak testing must be carried out before charging the refrigerant system to finalize the process. A new receiver/drier desiccant bag needs replacement only when system contamination caused by a failed A/C compressor combined with physical receiver/drier damage is present. All O-ring seals used on this vehicle must specifically match since they do not fit other Ford products.
