2008 Ford Edge Fuel Rail Parts Q&A

  • Q: How should one safely service the fuel rail and what steps are involved in the process on 2008 Ford Edge?
A: Security measures in fuel rail service require no use of smoking and danger of open flame exposure to fuel mixtures which present extreme flammability. Any fuel system component disconnection must include the removal of system pressure before hand to avoid uncontrolled fuel spraying because the system pressure remains elevated after engine shutdown. Start the procedure by unfastening the battery grounding cable followed by fuel system pressure reduction. The procedure begins by disconnecting the fuel tube-to-fuel rail quick connect coupling and continuing with removal of the upper intake manifold. Each of the six fuel injector electrical connectors should then be separated. Proceed with the removal of four bolts securing the fuel rail after you detach the fuel rail assembly with its accompanying injectors. Replace the twelve fuel injector O-ring seals by utilizing special fuel-resistant materials which should be chosen instead of common O-rings because ordinary O-rings may cause leaks. Place new O-ring seals into position before lubricating them with engine oil then place them with the six fuel injectors and their clips into the fuel rail. Reattach the fuel rail together with the injectors using four bolts which should be torqued to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). The next procedures include reconnecting the six fuel injector electrical connectors and the fuel tube-to-fuel rail quick connect coupling before reinstalling the upper intake manifold then reconnecting the battery ground cable.
