- Q: How to service and repair the battery cables on 2008 Ford Escape?A: As a first step service and repair of battery cables must include battery disconnection alongside air cleaner assembly removal. After removing the generator B+ terminal nut you need to fasten it to a torque specification of 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) when reinstalling it. The generator B+ terminal cable should be placed aside before disconnecting the generator harness retainer. The service technician should remove the starter solenoid terminal cover followed by the starter motor positive cable nut along with subsequent 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) torque setting during reinstallation. Security the starter solenoid wire nut to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) torque when replacing it. Remove the battery ground cable bolt while positioning starter motor terminals to the side and tight this bolt to 25 Nm while replacing it. The procedure starts by placing the battery ground cable to the side while disconnecting the pin-type retainers from the left rear of the engine and the front of the engine and middle of the intake runners. The clip retainers need disconnection from both the right front and left front locations of the engine for further operations. The left fenderwell body ground terminal bolt must be removed and tightened up to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) when reinstalling it. The BJB terminals can be accessed by opening the BJB cover while removing the terminal nut that needs 10 Nm (89 lb-in) torque during replacement. First remove the retainer fasteners securing the battery cables to the battery tray then disconnect the electrical connector from BJB terminal before setting aside the BJB terminal. The installation process should be completed by performing the opposite steps of removal.
