2008 Ford F-150 Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the lower intake manifold on 2008 Ford F-150?
A: The service and repair of lower intake manifold starts with disconnecting the fuel supply spring lock coupling. Start by unmounting the upper intake manifold after disconnecting the fuel charging wiring harness and main engine wiring harness connections and the intake manifold runner control (IMRC) actuator electrical connectors. First disconnect engine vacuum hose harnesses and fuel charging wiring harnesses which need bolts removal and fuel rail detachment as an assembly. You should loosen the clamps until you detach the heater outlet hose with the upper radiator hose and bypass hose and heater inlet hose. The following procedure requires the removal of both lower intake manifold items and lower intake manifold gaskets and front and rear seals and six long and eight short bolts. Installation should not use metal scrapers or abrasive tools for cleaning sealing surfaces because the proper cleaning method consists of using plastic scraping tools and silicone gasket removers alongside metal surface preparation for the gasket mating surfaces. The lower intake manifold must receive secure installation inside four minutes or else the sealant needs removal and the cleaning process must be repeated on the sealing area. The first step involves placing the seals at both front and rear positions before applying the intake manifold gaskets. Sealant and silicone gasket form a bead at the intake manifold front and rear where the mounting points sit and the lower intake manifold should be placed afterward. Silicone gasket and sealant should be applied in four locations along the lower intake manifold gaskets and front and rear seal junctions. Identify and mount the long bolts in 1, 2, 3, 4, 11, and 12 positions then apply two consecutive tightens reaching 5 Nm (44 lb-in) followed by 10 Nm (89 lb-in). Reassemble the heater inlet hose together with the bypass hose followed by the upper radiator hose and the heater outlet hose while adjusting proper clamp placement. Install the fuel rail and fuel charging wiring harness together with the engine vacuum hose harness along with its bolts which should be fastened to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). The procedure ends with reconnecting the main engine wiring harness electrical connectors that control both the IMRC actuator and fuel charging wiring harness followed by reinstallation of the upper intake manifold and fuel supply spring lock coupling.
