2008 Ford F-350 Super Duty Automatic Transmission Shifter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the automatic transmission shifter on 2008 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
A: Service and repair of the automatic transmission shifter requires starting with instrument cluster removal. First disconnect the selector lever cable followed by the removal and discard of the locking pin then the separation of the park lock cable (PLC). Detach the transmission control switch electrical connector as well as its harness by removing them from their retaining clips. Start by removing the selector lever bolt and later removing the selector lever before proceeding to the selector lever mechanism lower bolt. The vehicle needs the breakdown of the brake shift interlock actuator (BSIA) electrical connector followed by upper bolt removal to take out the selector lever mechanism. To prevent damage while removing the BSIA from the selector lever mechanism, firstly pull the BSIA override button, remove the BSIA screw, and use careful pressure on the clip to separate it from the mechanism. To mount the BSIA you should first attach it to the selector lever mechanism by pulling the override button next to aligning the selector lever tab into the BSIA then securing it with the clip and finally installing the screw. After installing the selector lever mechanism into the vehicle space the upper bolts and connect the BSIA electrical connector then tighten both connections to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.). The selector lever mechanism lower bolt needs installation with a torque of 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.) followed by tightening the selector lever to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.). The TC switch electrical connector and the harness should be inserted into the clips before adding a new locking pin to complete the PLC connection. Reconnect the selector lever cable then reinstall the instrument cluster as the last step.
