2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty Automatic Transmission Shifter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Shifter Mechanism on 2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
A: The service process for selector lever mechanisms requires initial removal of the Instrument Cluster (IC). First break the selector lever cable before you remove and discard the locking pin to disconnect the park lock cable. First remove the Transmission Control Switch (TCS) electrical connector and the harness when they are still secured to their retaining clips. Begin services and repairs of the selector lever mechanism starting with the removal of the selector lever bolt after which comes the removal of the selector lever itself before extracting the selector lever mechanism lower bolt. First disconnect the BSIA electrical connector before removing the selector lever mechanism upper bolts and the selector lever mechanism from the vehicle. Begin disconnecting BSIA from this selector lever mechanism by activating its override button then pulling out the screw before using a clip lifter tool on the loosely positioned BSIA. Installation of the BSIA consists of applying force to the override button to attach the BSIA onto the selector lever mechanism while simultaneously positioning the selector lever tab into the BSIA before securing it with the clip and screw installation. After reinstalling the selector lever mechanism into the vehicle hardware one should secure it with the upper bolts while connecting the BSIA electrical connector with a torque setting of 6 Nm (53 lb-in). First tighten the lower bolt of the selector mechanism to 6 Nm while also tightening the selector lever to 18 Nm. The TCS electrical connector and harness should be connected into their retaining clips followed by installation of the locking pin and park lock cable through connector of the park lock cable and new locking pin insertion. Complete installation of the IC by connecting the selector lever cable before reinstalling the component.
