2008 Ford F-350 Super Duty Clutch Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the clutch master cylinder and reservoir on 2008 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
A: The complete clutch hydraulic system needs removal as an assembly from the vehicle when installing new clutch master cylinder assemblies since clutch master cylinder service occurs within the assembly format. The first step involves removing the clutch hydraulic tube from its position secured by the dash clip. Place the vehicle in neutral mode before setting it on a hoist. The clutch control system features a heat shield that protects most of the tube and clutch slave cylinder; sliding this shield backward will make it possible to unclip and remove the clutch slave cylinder from the transmission by turning it counterclockwise with compression. An improved position of the clutch slave cylinder and its hydraulic tube beneath the left engine bank reduces hydraulic tube tension which allows easier clutch master cylinder disconnection from the clutch pedal and support bracket. The push rod retaining clips inside the car need to be unlocked to separate the clutch master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal while removing and discarding of the push rod bushing. The technician should first remove the switch cover together with the clutch pedal position switch from the push rod and then disconnect the power distribution box from its bracket to access the clutch master cylinder. Unlocking the clutch master cylinder requires pressure and clockwise twisting of 45 degrees to remove it with the clutch pedal and support bracket. The liquid brake fluid poses a danger to painted and plastic surfaces so immediate cold water washing is essential to clean up spillages. Install new components by orienting the CPP switch flat side toward the clutch master cylinder tab at 12 o'clock clock position to protect both components during function and obtain adequate clutch pedal movement. Start by installing the new push rod and push rod bushing followed by sliding the heat shield forward over the slave cylinder while it touches the transmission case and pressing the clutch pedal to complete push rod installation inside the master cylinder then proceed with testing the system.
