A completely repaired gasoline engine requires the vehicle in neutral gear while on a hoist position. Begin by first removing the skid plate whenever it is present and next remove the 2 exhaust Y-pipe flange bolts. The Torca(R) clamp between the catalytic converter and the muffler requires loosening or the clamp attaching the converter to the exhaust intermediate pipe if vehicle configuration allows. The exhaust intermediate pipe isolator followed by the front muffler isolator should be disconnected first before removing the catalytic converter from its isolator. The new catalytic converter must be installed within the muffler or the exhaust intermediate pipe according to specifications. You should reattach all isolators starting with the exhaust intermediate pipe before moving on to the front muffler then to the catalytic converter. Manual installation of the Y-pipe flange exhaust bolts must be performed with 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) torque specification. The catalytic converter button should be placed fully into its designated position at the muffler or exhaust intermediate pipe before completing a Torca(R) clamp torque setting to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). Perform the exhaust system alignment procedure when the load on exhaust system isolators remains other than zero. The skid plate must be reinstalled in case it was previously removed.
