2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty Clutch Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the clutch master cylinder and reservoir in equipped with ZF 6-Speed or Tremec 5-Speed hydraulic systems on 2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
A: When repairing the clutch master cylinder and reservoir on ZF 6-Speed and Tremec 5-Speed vehicles service technicians must fully exchange the clutch hydraulic system because the master cylinder requires replacement through the assembly method. First disconnect the clutch hydraulic tube from its dash clip while hoisting the vehicle in neutral position. The heat shield must slide backward for clutch slave cylinder unlocking then perform counterclockwise twisting motions while compressing it before removing it from the transmission. Reduce tension on the clutch hydraulic tube by positioning it forward below the left bank of the engine while fitting the slave cylinder. During this process disconnect the tube from its floor pan clip. Within the car you should remove the push rod retaining clips to separate the clutch master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal while discarding the push rod bushing. The technician detach the clutch pedal position (CPP) switch and switch cover from the push rod before isolating the power distribution box from its bracket to access the master cylinder. To remove the clutch master cylinder apply a clockwise rotation of 45 degrees through compressing the device. Brake fluid deserves immediate water washing of painted or plastic surfaces to prevent its damaging effects because it can harm those materials. To avoid damage and achieve correct clutch pedal operation when installing the new master cylinder position the flat CPP switch towards the cylinder tab while keeping the connector at the twelve o'clock mark. Follow the uninstallation steps while preventing the push rod from being removable after installation and include a new bushing for the push rod. Move the heat shield toward the slave cylinder while the transmission case is in contact then press the clutch pedal to place the push rod into position inside the master cylinder until finished. Testing the system follow for normal operation.
